Joe Christian off to World Masters Championships

Gorey Cycling Club’s Joe Christian will be heading off to Austria next week to compete in the World Masters Cycling Championships. Joe has several race wins and podium finishes already this season and recently competed in the Irish Masters Road Race Championships, finishing 8th in the Masters 40 category. The Irish Masters were run in conjunction with the National Road Race Championships in Omagh in June. Joe was also one of a three man team from Gorey Cycling Club to compete in this year’s Gorey 3 Day Cycle Race over the Easter weekend. The competition at the Masters is always tough, but if Joe is showing some great form at the moment, the latest win only this week in Camross at the Bike Shop League.

About the World Masters Championships
St. Johann in Tirol in Austria has been the site of World Masters Road Championships for 44 years. The road race in St. Johann in Tirol is one of the biggest cycle sports event in the world. Over 3500 participants from 53 nations do battle in several categorised races for those sought-after medals. The Masters is open to all licensed racers, between the ages of 18 and 80 and they will race over multiple laps of a 40km circuit.
