Frank O’Rourke Memorial Race

A very strong performance from the GoreyCC lads at the Frank O’Rourke Memorial race in Wexford on Sunday, May 1st in testing conditions. Brendan, coming from his win in the GoreyCC league on Thursday, finished 7th in the A4 race. Darren contested the bunch sprint in the A3 race, 3rd rider of the bunch over the line and finishing 11th over all. Well done lads!

GoreyCC League Race 1 Result

Big thanks to everyone that made GoreyCC’s first hosted race on Thursday a great success, despite the bitterly cold conditions.

The A4’s went off first for 30mins plus an extra 2 laps of the 1.4km circuit, with Gorey’s Brendan and Cathal off the front for much of the race. Brendan however pulled well clear for the win.

The A1/2/3 lads were keen to get going next for their 30min race, to get warm if nothing else. A 3 man break developed early and stayed away until the finish with Sean Moore of Barrow pulling clear on the final stretch for the win.

A special thanks to all the crew, drivers, moto riders and the marshals who stood out in the icy cold for well over an hour. The spectators and residents who came out of their cosy homes to see some great racing. And to Derek Webb for all the organisation, which made our job on the night pretty easy!

Brendan Dunne finishes 3rd A4 at the Wexford County Championships

Well done to all who raced the rescheduled Wexford County Championships on Tuesday September 8th, hosted by South East Road Club. The previous attempt had to be postponed after a serious road traffic accident closed part of the route. The overall win was taken by Slipstream’s Declan Kinch who just managed to hold off Luke Maguire of Wexford Wheelers in a thrilling sprint finish.

A good result for GoreyCC with Brendan Dunne (pictured) taking 3rd place in the A4 race and Joe Christian finishing 1st A1. Well done lads!

Hat-trick of wins for Brendan Dunne!

With his 3rd win in a row, Brendan clinched the Slipstream A4 league title last night with his now trademark powerful sprint finish. It was always going to be a hotly contested race and didn’t disappoint, with numerous attacks, all quickly reeled back in. SERC’s on form Ciaran Furlong was the league leader going into the race and wasn’t going to give it up easily. Brendan knew that nothing less than a win was going to clinch the overall. Ciaran attacked in the last few km’s, but couldn’t make it stick and Brendan powered well clear of the field, taking John Merrigan of Barrow with him for 2nd. Well done all and particularly all the GoreyCC riders for their hard work throughout the league.

GoreyCC take the spoils at Slipstream league week 4

It was another great week for GoreyCC in the Wexford league with wins on Wednesday and Thursday.

First up was Tom Purcell, winning the Novice race in round 5 of SlaneyCC’s Davidstown league on Wednesday evening after sprinting clear of the rest of the field (watch the video: https://youtu.be/y6Vj8moXVCU). A hat tip to Gerry and Greg also for getting placed, well done all.

  6. Greg Penney – Gorey CC

Thursday evening was round 4 of Slipstream’s league on the usual Inch circuit. The A3/A2/A1 saw a very early breakaway develop, but Joe Christian made the good decision to bridge across quickly as the break stayed away for the rest of the race. By all accounts, the pace of the breakaway was “fierce”. At the finish he out sprinted all by an impressive margin to take the win.

  2. Denis McCarthy – Slipstream CC

The A4’s were up next and Brendan Dunne made it 2 in a row as he battled a very strong, on form SERC contingent and put in a powerful sprint finish to take the win in the A4 league race. He was run all the way to the line by SERC’s Ciaran Furlong in 2nd.
